Flavie Darchen is a world renowned animator, writer and director, while Reno Armanet is a Cannes Award winning independent director, animator, music composer and visual development artist. Both of them are very enthusiastic in nurturing animation talents around the world.

In the series of lectures, Reno emphasised that since animation was very fluid, with many actions taking place in the same frame simultaneusly, proper use of expose sheet in planning the timing of animations couldn’t be exaggerated. Using globally acclaimed Tarzan and 101 Dalmation animations as examples, these French animation masters guided students to be observant of the actions, and analyse the actions contained in the clips.

Through the lectures, Q&A sessions and training classes conducted by Flavie and Reno, The One Academy students received a boost in their capabilities in various stages of story development, including conceptualisation, character design, visual development and storyboarding. Besides discussing and demonstrating an array of important techniques, the top-notch talented lecturers also inspired students with many great films they have produced, and reviewed students' portfolios during critique sessions.

As many felt that animation was a complicated art to master, Reno encouraged students to constantly improve their skills by paying attention to details in all aspects, first and foremost “Feel the life and think about the process of body movements”. Besides the technical issues, it is also very important to beef up on the storytelling front, where the clarity of narrative and characterisation will determine the attractiveness of the final product.

Strengthening the confidence of our young animators, Reno and Flavie concluded that eventhough there was no magic in the mastery of artistry, passion was the ultimate contributing factor behind every success story in the global universe of animation. Thus they advised students to cultivate a strong interest animation of all genres, in order to broaden one's horizon and widen one's exposure.
