Inclusivity in Interior Spaces
Updated 2019-08-29

In the recent P.I.S.S. 2019, Ar. Sharifah Noor Nazim – Head of the Architecture Department of Development & Estate Management in Universiti Malaya, provided real insights into her everyday life as an in-house architect. In her sharing titled “Disabled Awareness: Inclusivity in Interior Spaces”, some of the topics touched upon are inclusivity, types of challenges and measures to take towards an inclusive environment. Inclusivity means including people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or mental disabilities and members of minority groups. Unlike people, spaces should not discriminate. In the words of blind architect Chris Downey, “Great architecture for the blind and visually impaired is just like any other great architecture, only better.”
